How to make your Dress more Casual

Ever have a really cute dress that you love to wear but it is to fancy to wear at other times? How about a dress that doesn't really fit in with the season?  Here are some ideas of what I do to dress down an outfit!
First I want to say that as Christian women who should strive to have clothing that draws attention to our face. That is not saying we can't wear cute clothes, or clothes that make us look more attractive, but the whole reason to wear clothing is to glorify God. If you are wearing something to draw the wrong attention from guys or you are wearing something that is just bringing glory to yourself, one should rethink wearing that particular outfit. When I was in my teens I remember that I felt like my self worth was based on how put together I was or how I looked. In later years I have realized that yes the Lord cares how I dress, but my entire life should not be focused on that. My self worth has nothing to do with my clothes or makeup. I am worthy because Christ made me and saved me. I am bought with His blood and am forever His. Here are just a couple ideas that I have seen and done myself to change up and outfit. Hope it helps!
Quick disclaimer, I am not an expert dresser! My Mom has taught me a lot about color and how to put things together. Everyone has their own style, just dress the way that fits your body type and coloring. There are going to be some things that work for you that wouldn't work for me, just like there are some things that work for me but they wouldn't work for you. Just dress for your body type and take or leave any tips I give! The dress above is a forest green knee length dress that I got at Eshakti.com. These are amazing because one can add length to a dress, sleeves or a higher neckline to almost any article of clothing on their website. They customize the dress for you! I love this dress but I wanted to wear more often. SO for the first look I just added brown cowboy boots and a jean jacket. Jean jackets usually can work over any dress if the dress goes in at the waist. I would probably just wear studs for earrings, a long necklace to lengthen the torso, and do a light makeup look. I love wearing cowboy boots, but if you don't like cowboy boots you can always add brown boots. :)

The next thing I have learned is that it is okay to mix black and brown together as long as it 'goes.' My dress has black detailing at the bottom of the dress. I added my tan sparkly sneakers with a brown cardigan and belt to add some warmth. The belt also makes it look more fitted since I have a baggy cardigan.  I have to go on a little rant and say that shoes can make or break an outfit. ( my aunt taught me that! ) It helps to finish off a look. I got these tan shoes for $15 at Shoe Carnival. I absolutely love them! They are so comfortable and they go with almost any outfit in my closet. Since my hair is up I would do a darker eye makeup with small pieces of jewelry because my belt is my 'big' accent piece. The necklace I have on is one I got from Loft.

Lastly wear accessories! I love scarfs especially because you can add color and texture to an otherwise dull outfit. This look is more of a springtime look. I am just wearing gold sandals with a scarf I got from Maurices.  I would finish the look off with a waterfall braid. When adding a scarf to an outfit I had to be careful not to have to  many patterns. Sometimes to many patterns can make you look disheveled. I really hope this gave you some ideas!! If anyone has any comments or suggestions about an outfit just let me know! I am not an expert and am always wanting to hear new ideas. :)
A special thank you to my sister Faith for her wonderful photography skills :)
